Couple of days after Truck Owners’ Association accused senior BJD leader and former Rajya Sabha MP, N Bhaskar Rao of funding Maoists by siphoning association’s money, Opposition BJP and Congress trained their guns at the conch party leader on Saturday.

Launching a scathing attack on Rao, BJP alleged that there are several instances where many BJD leaders were found having links with the Maoists.

Addressing a press meet, BJP spokesperson, Dillip Malick termed the incident unfortunate and said, “There are many BJD leaders who have links with the Maoists for their political base and business. Even if they deny their links, it is quite clear that several BJD leaders have nexus with the ultras.”

Seconding BJP, the Congress also cornered BJD and demanded a crime branch probe into the allegations leveled by the Truck Owners’ Association.

“The members of the Truck Owners’ Association brought the allegations in a press meet and also lodged a police complaint at Rayagada Police Station against Bhaskar Rao on April 18. But, the police is yet to take any action in this regard,” Congress Media Cell chairman, Ganeswar Behera said.

On the other hand, Rao has termed the allegations of the Truck Owners’ Association as baseless.

“The allegations are completely baseless. If they have any evidence supporting their allegation, they can approach anyone against me. I have no objection,” Rao said.
