4.43 lakh vacant posts in all police forces: Here's the detail

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that as many as 4.43 lakh posts are lying vacant in police forces in the country.

Ahir said as per the data compiled by the Bureau of Police Research and Development, as on January 1, 2017, 4,43,524 posts of police personnel were vacant in all states and union territories against the sanctioned strength of 19,89,295 posts.

"Recruitment is continuous process. So far as the shortage of police personnel is concerned, the vacancies in the service are caused to factors such as retirement, resignation, death, removal from service etc.

"All these factors are recurring in nature," he said replying a written question in the Upper House.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria on the other hand said his government will recruit youths for over 95,000 posts in the state this year.

Responding to BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari, who raised the issue of stalled recruitment process in the government sector, during the Zero Hour, Kataria said the state government has prepared a 'recruitment calendar' for this year.

Alleged that the recruitment on nearly 1.5 lakh posts is stalled due to litigation, Tiwari said recruitment on close to 95,000 posts will be conducted this year.
