The bank manager in her complaint alleged that Rs 9,56,76,000 were illegally transferred through four cheques to bank accounts of various companies including PT Constructions and Suppliers and SK Enterprises. The suspected transactions were carried out between April 10 and 18.

In a tragic mishap, at least seven people died and one is still missing after a boat carrying about 50 people capsized in the Mahanadi River in Jharsuguda on Friday.

Fortunately, both the children, who were near the deceased when the mishap occurred, are reportedly safe.

Madhabananda Nayak, a resident of Lamtaput in Koraput, alleged that most of the time they have to suffer due to undeclared power cuts by the distribution company. “Life has become miserable due to heat and power cuts,” he fumed. 

It has been seen that people are setting fires to forests to collect mahua flowers, kendu leaves and for shifting cultivation, the forest official said, adding that immediate action is being taken, and about 100 cases are registered against culprits every year.
