Having been betrayed by the party at the last moment, scores of aspiring candidates have filed nomination as independent candidates. 

In Cuttack, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out grand processions for their respective Mayor candidates that passed through the roads and lanes of the city.

State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi said that since there has been a significant drop in the daily Covid-19 cases, restrictions will be lifted for campaigning during the crucial elections to 106 urban local bodies (ULBs) and three municipal corporations, scheduled to be held on March 24.

The announcement was made by Bhubaneswar MP Aprajita Sarangi at a press conference in the capital city on Saturday.
