Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surya Narayan Patro informed on Sunday about receipt of a letter in which the Centre has asked the Odisha government to interact with its Parliamentary Affairs department.
The issue pertaining to the creation of Vidhan Parishad, an upper legislative house in Odisha, triggered a controversy after the Centre recently denied receiving any resolution from the State in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that Union Minister Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha that the Centre was still to receive any resolution passed by the Odisha Assembly for the formation of a Legislative Council in the State while answering BJD MP Prasanna Acharya's question. On Friday, his answer evoked sharp reactions from several BJD leaders including the Assembly Speaker.
Acharya had asked Rijiju whether the Odisha Legislative Assembly has adopted a unanimous resolution for the creation of Legislative Council and if the Central government plans to create a Council under Article 169 of the Constitution?
