A four-member team of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday visited the Budhabalang riverbed at Mahupura under Badasahi tehsil in Mayurbhanj for the second time to inspect the magnitude of sand theft and its environmental impacts.
According to a notification issued by the State Revenue and Disaster Management department, Moharana has been suspended with immediate effect.
The green court held the company accountable for the violation of a partly undertaken expansion without prior environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
During the course of the hearing, the bench took note of a relevant article, in which it was stated that toxic gases and particulate matter may be generated indoors which may adversely affect the employees working in such places and also the general public visiting there.
The principal bench of the NGT headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was hearing a plea against the operation of stone crushers and other such industries in the Agra district in violation of environmental norms.
The tribunal also directed the State government to take stringent measures to check illegal sand mining.
As per the plea, nearly 100-200 "Red category" and highly polluting units are illegally operating in the Sarurpur Industrial area which burns approximately 40-50 tons of E-Waste daily which has made the environment of the region toxic.
