As the municipalities and notified area councils (NACs) in Odisha are gearing up to elect their vice-chairpersons on April 7, allegations of ruling Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD’s) involvement in horse-trading has heated up the political climate in the State.
In Dharamgarh NAC in Kalahandi district as well as Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak Municipalities, the majority of councillors belong to the ruling BJD party.
In the municipal elections, the BJD, BJP and Congress have secured 73, 16 and seven municipality chairman posts respectively.
Tension ran high at Booth no-III set up at Jhankarpada School in Kantabanjhi NAC, Bolangir where polling for Ward no-14 and 15 was underway.
Though the dates for the crucial rural and urban body elections are still to be announced, they are expected to be held earlier this year
