Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, the newly inducted ministers, former Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai were the prominent members who took the oath as MLAs on Monday.

Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday took oath as the new Karnataka Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, respectively, at the swearing in ceremony of the new Congress government in the state.

The Congress on Thursday announced veteran party leader Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister while state unit chief DK Shivakumar was announced to be the only Deputy Chief Minister, with the swearing-in ceremony planned on May 20 afternoon in Bengaluru.

The party source said that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 20 afternoon in Bengaluru.

He also urged the media not to speculate or spread rumours and stay away from fake news.

However, Siddaramaiah, according to the sources, wants the first term and that he would demit office after the first two years with Shivakumar to follow in the rest of the term.

With the resolution, the ball has come into the court of the high command. Sources said that the step came since former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar are not settling anything but the post of the Chief Minister.

Those interpreting the Karnataka results as an early indicator of the defeat of the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections would do well to remember what happened the last time.

Currently serving as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Karnataka, Sood brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.

Siddaramaiah, 75, and Shivakumar, the party's trouble shooter who won from Kanakapura by over one lakh votes and who turns 61 on Sunday, are both front runners for the chief minister's post.

Among other tightly-fought competitions, Congress' T.D. Rajegowda defeated BJP's D.N. Jeevaraya by a margin of 201 votes from Sringeri Assembly seat.

While appreciating hardwork of the party workers, the Prime Minister also thanked people who supported BJP in the elections.

"The election result has no connection with the 2024 election. We had won 25 seats and again we will make sincere efforts to win those many seats again to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister," the four-time Chief Minister told reporters here.

Asked whether the Modi and Shah factor did not work in this election, the CM said there are various reasons for this outcome and one can speak about it after a thorough analysis.

"We take this result in our stride and reorganize the party and we will come back in the Lok Sabha elections," CM Bommai stated.
