If such a price rise of fuel continues, the price of several other essential commodities will most likely mount. This will again add up to the woes already inflicting on the monthly budget of lower and middle-class families.
The rates of petrol and diesel have been increased across the country and vary from state to state. This is the 10th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22.
The industry has been urging the Centre to include the fuel type in the ambit of GST, similar to the status given to 'Bunker Diesel' which is used in the shipping sector.

On March 22, fuel prices were revised for the first time after a gap of nearly four months. With the price revision, petrol price per litre has now reached Rs 111.09 paisa at Kalimela in Malkangiri district.
Petrol in Bhubaneswar was retailing at Rs 103.69 as against 102.66 previously while the diesel rate has gone up from Rs 92.48 per litre to Rs 93.61 per litre, as per a price notification of state fuel retailers.
According to CRISIL Research, a hike of Rs 15-20 per litre is required to fully pass the increase in international oil prices.
With the latest price revision, petrol and Diesel prices have gone up by 96 paisa and 91 paisa respectively, in Bhubaneswar. Petrol in the capital city of Odisha will now cost Rs 102.74 per litre while diesel will be sold at Rs 92.54 per litre.
Prices also remained static on Sunday in Kolkata where the price of petrol was reduced by Rs 5.82 to Rs 104.67 per litre and that of diesel by Rs 11.77 to Rs 89.79 per litre on the previous day.

Hundreds of agitating ruling party workers hit the streets with bullock carts, bicycles and trolleys and demanded immediate cut in the fuel prices. Similarly, women leaders and party members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal staged a sit-in and lit hearths on road to protest LPG cylinder price hike.
The Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) will hold demonstrations outside petrol pumps in all 147 assembly constituencies.
In the Capital city of Bhubaneswar, while the price of per litre petrol has skyrocketed to Rs 109.71, the price of diesel has touched Rs 106 per litre.
It remained static again on Monday and Tuesday before rising again on Wednesday.
The fuel prices remained static on Monday and Tuesday, but had risen for four straight days by 35 paise per litre previously before rising again for three consecutive days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
