Protesting the BJP-led Central Government over the continuous rise in the price of fuel and other essential commodities across the country, the ruling BJD in Odisha on Saturday decided to stage protests across the State from October 31.

As part of the agitation, the BJD members and leaders will sit on a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan in the Capital City tomorrow and submit a memorandum to the Governor addressing it to the President of India, said BJD leader and Government’s Chief Whip, Pramila Mallick at the presser.

Protesting the rise in the prices of LPG, edible oil, pulses and other essential commodities, the party will be organising protest meetings in all the 147 Assembly constituencies of the State on November 1.

Similarly, the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) will hold demonstrations outside petrol pumps in all 147 assembly constituencies, said Mallick.

Targeting the BJP-led Union government over the rising prices, BJD MLA Pratap Deb said, “The rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG have burdened each and every household in the country amid the ongoing pandemic. At a time when life and several businesses are gradually limping back to normalcy, the rise in the prices of essential commodities has added to their woes. BJD will never stay silent over this issue and raise its voice in the public interest,” Deb said.
