On Monday, the CB team visited Swain's house in Ranapur of Nayagarh where family members of the deceased identified the half-burnt footwear and earphone used by Swain, which were earlier recovered from Chandikhol. The team conducted search of Swain's house to find out the 'missing' memory chip, but returned empty-handed.

The Crime Branch deposed Sarmistha Rout, Jhuna Bhoi, former OIS officer Niranjan Sethi and Ranjan Nayak alias Raj before the JMFC and prayed the court for five day remand of the accused. 

Several documents and official items believed to be having significance to the investigation in the sensational murder case of cameraman Manas Swain have allegedly been taken away from the residence of the prime accused Sharmistha Rout by her sister-in-law.

While the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) intensifies the interrogation of Sharmistha Rout and three others in the cameraman Manas Swain murder case, questions have been raised on the very efficacy of the investigation in the backdrop of allegations that the belated detection of the case could have erased the trail of many crucial evidence.

The Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday took over the investigation of the sensational Nayagarh cameraman Manas Swain murder case, Crime Branch ADG Sanjeev Panda informed the media.

The body of Chittaranjan, a native of Sanabandhakera village under Brahmagiri Block of Puri district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Nuanai on December 13. 

Gahlot was arrested by the EOW from Sector-23 Dwaraka in New Delhi on December 18. He was subsequently produced before Metropolitan Magistrate, Dwaraka on December 19 and the court had allowed him 5 days transit bail with direction to appear before the trial court –SJDM Bhubaneswar- on or before December 24, 2021.

Chittaranjan Palai, a key aide of BJD leader and deputy chairman of State Planning Board Sanjay Das Burma, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Nuanai in Puri district on December 13. 

Crime Branch (CB) officials questioned Burma’s PSO, Sarbeswar Jena and the nephew of Palai, Dillip who were also present at the feast hosted by one Jagannath Sarangi on that fateful night.

The Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two people on charges of smuggling deer skins in Puri district.

DFO Sangram Keshari Behera and Manmath Kumbha- the cook attached to the deceased officer’s quarters- the Crime Branch had filed a 300-page charge sheet against Bidya Bharati in the SDJM Court in Paralakhemundi on Friday.
