Former India goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey has defeated Bhaichung Bhutia 33-1 in a one-sided All India Football Federation (AIFF) election for the post of president on Friday.

The CoA, headed by former Supreme Court judge A R Dave, had been overseeing the affairs of the AIFF since the May 18 order of the top court, which ousted Praful Patel as the president of the federation.

The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that the committee of administrators (CoA), managing the affairs of All India Football Federation (AIFF), must cease to exist from this day and also proposed 25 per cent of the elected executive committee should have eminent players.

The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 16) announced that it has decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect. As per official reports, FIFA took the decision after "undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a severe violation of the FIFA statutes."

The AIFF will not be able to play any international games until the ban is removed.

Mehta said FIFA was in Geneva and it has taken certain decisions which are important developments for the country and need to be brought before the court.

India had recently locked horns against Brazil, Chile and Venezuela in a four-nation tournament as part of its preparation for the AFC Asian Cup to be held in India at Mumbai and Pune from January 20 to February 6
