Odisha leaders pay tribute in ceremony held in memory of late Congress leader Basant Biswal

The 22nd state-level Sraddhanjali Sabha (a tribute ceremony) in memory of late Congress leader Basant Kumar Biswal was solemnly held yesterday, bringing together leaders from various political parties, sources said on Monday.

The program was conducted under the chairmanship of Arya Kumar Gyanendra, head of the Basant Kumar Biswal Smruti Committee.

Prominent attendees included Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Vice-President Debi Prasad Mishra, among others. The gathering paid homage to the legacy and contributions of former Deputy CM Basant Biswal, a respected political figure in Odisha’s history.

The event served as a platform to reflect on Biswal’s enduring influence in State politics and to honour his commitment to public service.

“He (Basant Biswal) had a wonderful personality. He was a Karmayogi, and at that time, he was being called the Vishwakarma of Odisha. In the construction sector, be it an irrigation dam, or road, or a bridge, including Rajiv Bhawan and Cuttack ring road, he will always be remembered for his contributions,” the PCC President stated.

“On this occasion, we all pay our tribute and respect to him,” Bhakta Das said.

“Be it governmental or non-governmental work, starting from social and cultural spheres of human life, his contribution can be traced. Be it the Cuttack ring road or Bhawan of the Water Resources Department, dam and bridge development works, or any other development work across Odisha, his legacy will always be remembered,” senior BJD leader Mishra expressed.

“People of Odisha remember him for his expertise as the former Deputy CM and minister of different departments,” the senior BJD leader added.
