Cuttack: 29 teams from across India will now been seen in action at the  23rd Senior National Women Football Championship that has been inaugurated at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Sunday.

Secretary of Sports department Vishal Dev, Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debasish Samantaray, Odisha Athletic Association (OAA) Secretary Asirbad Behera and AIFF Assistant Manager of Women Football Sapna were present during the inaugural function.

"Odia girls are playing really well and finding place in the Indian team. Players from our state are playing for the State and many other teams like CRPF and Railways. I hope they will also do well in this competition and bring laurels for the State," said Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debasish Samantaray.

29 teams participating in this championship have been divided in eight groups while host Odisha has been placed in group G along with Gujarat.

Many international footballers are participating in this tournament and AIFF selectors will be keeping an eye on all the matches to select players for upcoming international games.

"We did the junior competition few months back and once again we are here for the senior championship in Odisha. Even the State government is supporting the Football Association of Odisha (FAO) which is a very good thing," informed Sapna, AIFF Assistant Manager of women football.

The matches will be played at Odisha Police Ground, Ravenshaw University Ground and Barabati Stadium in the city. The tournament will conclude on February 14 with the final scheduled to be played at the Barabati Stadium.
