Youth brutally assaulted inside police station; 2 cops suspended

Jagatsinghpur: In an incident of alleged police high-handedness, two cops have been placed under suspension on charges of assaulting a youth inside the premises of Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station.

As per a complaint lodged with the Jagatsinghpur DSP, the youth identified as Lingaraj Das, a resident of Odiso village, had gone to the local Sarpanch's residence along with his friend on September 12.

However, a conversation turned into a heated argument after which Lingaraj's friend started abusing the Sarpanch for some reason.

Subsequently, the Sarpanch filed a complaint at the police station following which the cops detained Lingaraj as they failed to nab the latter's friend who was actually involved in the verbal duel.

"Rabi Senapati sir, Siba Jani and Sahu babu brutally assaulted me one after another. I demand their suspension immediately for such an act," Lingaraj said.

Sustaining serious injuries in the physical assault, Lingaraj finally knocked the doors of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gadadhara Pradhani four days after the incident and lodged a complaint demanding action against the cops involved in thrashing him.

DSP Pradhani had ordered an investigation into the case and said that strict action will be taken against the accused cops as per law.

As per latest report, Jagatsinghpur SP has suspended ASI Rabi Senapati & Siba Jani.
