Bhubaneswar: The State Commission for Women (SCW) on Wednesday issued warning to the principal of a city-based private residential plus two science college for allegedly resorting to corporal punishment on students.

Students, including girls were allegedly beaten up at the college for their poor performance in an examination.

No complaints were, however, lodged with the police.

SCW chairperson Jyoti Panigrahi, who visited the college, said ?We found scar marks and wounds on the bodies of both male and female students ... We also seized a big stick from the principal?s room."

The principal of the college had admitted the charges and said that the teachers had punished the students in order to control them, Panigrahi said.

College principal Sunil Mohanty claiming that he took the step for `better future` of the students said "I have no anger against any of the students."
