RSP gives Rs 5 lakh for professional studies

Thanks to the financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh given by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), Philomena could continue her studies of the prestigious NIT, Rourkela. A final year B Tech (Ceramic) studene, Ekka said she has now got a job in IBM.

Similar is the tale of Ravi Ranjan Kindo. A fourth year MBBS student of SCB Medical College, Cuttack and a resident of Jhurmur village of Kuarmunda block, Ravi Ranjan lost his father some time ago.

However, his dream to be a doctor could be achieved because of the assistance of Rs 1 lakh given by RSP. Kindo says the money not only covered the college fees but also helped in buying books and meeting other necessities.

Rajesh Kumar Mundary, a final year B Tech student of IIT, Kharagpur too fulfilled his dream of being an IITian thanks to the scheme of RSP.

Philomena, Ravi Kumar, Rajesh and 7 other students of professional courses received the last installment of Rs 25,000/- of the Rs 1 lakh assistance at a function organised at Town Engineering Conference Hall on May 30.

Ten more students in their third year were given the 3rd installment of Rs 25,000 each of the Financial assistance in the same programme.

A senior RSP official said as a part of this scheme, every year the steel plant gives financial assistance to 10 students of professional courses (5 girls and 5 boys) belonging to either Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes and residents of any Resettlement colony/camp/block of RSP or any village coming under any of the revenue blocks of Bisra, Kuarmunda, Lathikata and Nuagaon of Sundargarh district.

RSP CEO G S Prasad while congratulating the students for winning the laurels said the PSU steel unit feels proud to be able to support them.

He also advised the students to study well, get a good position in the society and at the same time think of giving back to the society.
