Gajapati: Every year hundreds of tourists visit Mankada Dian waterfall in R Udaygiri to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place, but this year the footfall has plummeted, thanks to lack of proper roads.

According to sources, tourists now have to walk four kilometre after parking their vehicles to reach the waterfall.

“This waterfall is a beautiful spot. Last year, many tourists had visited the place, but after cyclone Titli, the number of tourists has declined significantly. I urge the government to repair the roads,” a visitor Manoj Kumar Pradhan said.

Another visitor Tapas Ranjan Kar said, “I have come all the way from Cuttack to enjoy the natural beauty of the place. It was very difficult to reach this place.”

Earlier this year, a committee was set up at block level and development work was carried out near the waterfall. However, due to cyclone Titli the roads were washed away.

On the hand, Block Development Officer of R.Udaygiri, Pradeep Kumar Naik, has assured that funds have been approved for the road construction work, which will begin soon.

“Many roads were washed away because of cyclone Titli. Funds for the repairing of the roads have been approved and we will finish the work soon,” Naik said.
