Bhubaneswar: The educational institutions in the country must remain free from politics and the government should provide sufficient allocations for developing infrastructure in the education centres. The Vice-President Dr Hamid Ansari today stressed that it was high time to make amendments in education system. Dr Ansari was speaking at the 44th Convocation Ceremony of the Utkal University, Vani Vihar.

Laying stress on the importance of education in the socio-economic development, the Vice-President said that quality of education needs top priority and attention of the nation. Dr Ansari rued that the mushroom growth of private coaching centres all over the country was an indicator of the lapses inherent in our education system. "Education and educational institutions should remain free from politics," Dr Ansari stressed.

Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare also graced the convocation ceremony with the Vice-President. Six eminent persons including Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik, Supreme Court advocate Udaya Umesh Lalith, eminet industrialist Dr Bansidhar Panda, former Solicitor General of India Rohington Nariman, former Solicitor General Harish Salve and famous cardiac surgeon and founder director of Asian Heart Institute Dr. Ramakanta Panda were honorary doctorates on the occasion. Doctorates were awarded to 192 scholars while gold medals were awarded to 91 students of Utkal Unversity. Ten other students received cash awards.
