Bhubaneswar: Stepping up ante against the proposed Posco project, political parties on Wednesday staged demonstration against the state government accusing it of submitting flawed Forest Rights Act compliance report to Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).

Activists of political parties—CPI, CPI (M), Forward Bloc, Samajwadi Party and Republican Party of India (RPI) burnt copies of the assurance report and shouted anti-government slogans as a mark of protest at Master Canteen square here.

The leaders accused the government of not conforming to guidelines in the implementation of FRA.

Earlier, the state government, in its report, had assured that there are no tribals residing in the proposed Posco project area in Jagatsinghpur who come under the other traditional forest dwellers (OTFDs) category.

It may be recalled that on April 15, anti-Posco activists had burnt the copies of the report at Dhinkiapatana few days after submitting their e-mail representation to MoEF.
