Keonjhar: Amid heavy deployment of police force, the district administration on Friday resumed the iron ore transportation from Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC)’s Gandhamardan iron ore mines in the district after a gap of almost two years.

The district administration clamped Section-144 in the area and resorted to force deployment apprehending any untoward incident since the mines in the past had witnessed stiff protest from locals regarding the ratio of ore loading in carriers.

Sources said, at least 25 platoons of force were deployed to ward off any untoward incident.

Though the mine was reopened following the intervention of the district administration for a brief period in October last, it was closed due to protests from locals.

In September 2011, Forest and Environment Department had issued a show cause to OMC over violation of forest laws. The mine was closed since then.
