Cuttack: A youth, Akshay Behera, hailing from Nischintakoili village of Cuttack district was allegedly tortured and detained by the authorities of his company in Nepal on charges of misappropriating funds. A complaint in this regard was lodged at Nischintakoili Police Station by Behera's mother, Premalata, on Sunday.

The FIR has been lodged against Devdutta Mohanty of Nischintakoili area, owner of ASMACS Group, where Behera is currently employed in Nepal.

Premalata alleged that Mohanty falsely implicated her son for swindling Rs 55 lakh from the company and now torturing him.

After preliminary investigation, police confirmed misappropriation of money but they are yet to ascertain if Behera was subjected to physical torture by the authorities of the company.

Officials of ASMACS Group could not be contacted for comment in connection with the matter.

"They (ASMACS Group) are alleging that my son has swindled Rs 55 lakh from the company's bank account," said Premalata.

Behera's uncle, Bhajan Kumar Behera, said, "We want our son to return home. After that, court will decide if he (Behera) has really committed the crime."
