Odisha Fire Services personnel receive grand welcome on their return from Kerala

Bhubaneswar: A 122-member team of Odisha Fire Services personnel who returned from flood-hit Kerala after carrying out rescue operations, received a grand welcome as they arrived in a special aircraft in Bhubaneswar on Thursday night. Another team of personnel comprising of 123 members will reach here today, informed sources.

As per reports, the team from Odisha successfully rescued 5000 people in Kerala and garnered accolades for their relief work. “We are proud that the team successfully carried out the relief work and rescued people from difficult situations. It is a matter of pride and honour for Odisha,” Inspector General of Fire Services Department Rajesh Kumar said.

On August 18, the special team of fire services comprising 240 fire personnel equipped with 75 power boats and required gadgets had left for Kerala to assist in rescue operations.

The Odisha government had also set up a 24-hour helpline 1070 and 0674-2534177 at the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office to coordinate the rescue efforts in Kerala.

A four-member team led by Assistant Labour Commissioner had also joined the team in Kerala to take stock of the situation and initiate measures for rescuing stranded Odias in the flood-ravaged state.
