Odia artist found dead in USA hotel

Bhubaneswar: An Odia artist Jiban Patra (41), originally from Balasore who was working in Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra’s troupe found was dead at a Los Angeles hotel in the USA on Sunday.

He is survived by wife Minakshi and two children, who are in Mumbai.

Patra, who was supposed to accompany the troupe to Vancouver, could not tour as he did not have a Canadian Visa. He stayed in a hotel while his colleagues left for Vancouver. His death came to notice after his team members returned to Loss Angeles, a release issued by Orissa Society of the Americas (OSA) said.

Priyanka’s team manager in the USA Ms. Natasha Pal informed the matter to the deceased’s wife the next day. The manager however has sought legal authorization from the family to send the body which is under the USA Police custody.

According to Pal the cause of death is heart attack.
Jiban was the sole bread earner in his family. Earlier his elder brother had died in his village 4 years ago leaving behind wife and two kids. His father also had a heart attack and died last year.

Patra who had left Balasore at a young age for Mumbai in search of a job, worked for Bolloywood star Aishwarya Rai and Karan Johar’s group. Later he joined Priyanka’s troupe as a free lancer and was on a tour to the USA.

The OSA has contacted Indian consulate and Odisha government seeking compensation to the deceased’s family.
