Rourkela: Mystery shrouds the death of R Jaybalan, an Assistant Professor of Life Sciences Department in National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela and his wife Malvi Kesavan whose bodies were recovered today from inside their official quarters on the premises of the institute.

Finding the door of the house locked from inside since last two days, the neighbours informed the security chief who immediately called police. The cops then rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies after breaking open the door. While Jaybalan’s body was recovered from bathroom, Malvi’s mortal remains were recovered from the bedroom.

As per sources, a preliminary investigation was carried out by the Additional SP, City DSP along with scientific experts in presence of the Magistrate.

“The security in-charge here informed us as the doors were closed from inside for the last two days. We have launched a probe and will look into all minute details,” said a senior police official.

Initial reports claimed that the couple might have committed suicide as a 4-page suicide note was recovered from the room of their house.

“During our preliminary investigation we recovered a suicide note where they (deceased couple) have said that no one is responsible for their deaths. They were disturbed mentally for not having any child. Recently, they had gone to their village in Tamil Nadu. Further investigation is underway,” informed Rourkela SP, Sarthak Sarangi.

As per reports, the couple had tied the knot nine years back and were without children.  Police officials stated that the couple committed suicide by consuming poison.
