Balasore: Nilagiri MLA Sukant Kumar Nayak today staged dharna in front of Sub Collectorate alleging misbehaviour by local Tehsildar for protesting eviction inside the premises of Nilagiri court premises in Balasore.

Sources said, some makeshift ‘moharir’ offices in the Nilagiri court premises near Sub Collector’s office were razed in presence of Tehsildar Sushrita Tudu, additional Tehsildar and Sadar Revenue Inspector (RI) in the morning.

However, the MLA reached the spot and protested the eviction. He also questioned Tudu for directing demolition drive without making any arrangements for rehabilitation or compensation.

Following the incident, a verbal dispute broke out between the two and later, even though the eviction process was stalled, Nayak staged a peaceful demonstration along with his several supporters outside the Sub Collector’s office alleging Tudu of misbehaving with him. Some people locked up the Tehsildar inside the office for four hours.

“The moharirs have been using the shed for years so when I came to know that the administration was planning to demolish the structure, I met the Sub Collector three days back and urged him not to carry out the eviction unless an alternative arrangement for their rehabilitation is done. But despite my sincere pleas, they took up the demolition drive and when I questioned the act, the official misbehaved with us,” informed Nayak.

"Through mohrirs people get service at the Tehsil office. Since they(Tehsildar & her staff) are unable to take money directly from people, they have demolished the offices out of rage," mohrir Trupti Swain said.

Responding on the issue, Tudu said, "We both had pointed fingers at each other. I have never heard such filthy language used by anyone against me. As a lady I have been harassed so I will take the legal route."

Meanwhile, the district administration has deployed police force in order to prevent any untoward incident on the spot.
