Bhubaneswar: With the monsoon current going weak again, the good riddance for the State is within a span of around 10-days, Bay of Bengal (BoB) region around the State will again witness a low pressure area by the weekend.
As per the weather models, under its influence, districts like Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam and Nayagarh are to witness very heavy rainfall on July 1 and 2. These districts may record over 3cm rainfall. The districts like Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal and Sundargarh are going to witness moderate rainfall during the period. And rest of Odisha will witness light rainfall.
The weather models, which earlier have given an indication of the monsoon low evolving into a depression, now suggest a little contrarian view. As the wind speed in area of the low pressure has been estimated at around 10 knots, the chances of it evolving into a depression now look less probable.
As these 'lows' are formed within the monsoon trough, they have the tendency to activate the monsoon rainfall over the Indian landscape. But as the lows are unable to convert into a depression, met experts keep their fingers crossed over the monsoon rainfall in Odisha.
However, the break of monsoon current saw the maximum temperatures observed across Odisha for the last four days recording a departure of nearly 5 degree Celsius above the normal temperature recorded over the years in the month of June in the State.
The temperature recorded on Wednesday showed a maximum departure of over 6 deg C from the normal in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Bolangir districts. Angul - Dhenkanal had also recorded a departure of over 5 deg C. While northern and north coastal districts have recorded a departure of over 4 deg c from the normal, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack exhibited a departure of over 2 deg C from normal.
While the maximum temperature recorded in western Odisha has been over 38 deg C, the coastal areas recorded 37 - 33 deg C during the last 4 days. It was observed that the maximum day temperature in north-coastal region in Odisha hovered around 37 deg c, but the south coastal region had recorded a maximum day temperature of around 33 deg C. And the trend to continue till Sunday.
