Nuapada: Suspecting as police informers, the Maoists killed two persons in two separate attacks here on Saturday.

The ultras raided the houses of the two victims separately at Kalamidadar and Koten villages in the district, about 30 km from here late last night and dragged them out before killing them in front of the villagers.

The duo had been identified as Nageswar Majhi (28) of Koten and Parasaram Majhi (30) of Kalamidadar. Both were beaten to death with blunt objects, they said.

Though the motive behind the killings was not clear, the ultras pasted posters near the sites with a warning that such attacks would continue if anti-naxal operations including combing are not stopped, police sources said. The posters also mentioned that the rebels killed the duo as they suspected them to be the police infprmer and were also applying for the SPO job.

However, the superintendent of police has denied the charges saying that  two were neither police informers nor were applying for SPO job.

On May 23, nine police personnel including an ASP of Chhatisgarh were killed after being ambushed by over 250 Maoists near Orissa-Chhatisgarh border while returning after a combing operation in Sunabeda sanctuary in Nuapada district.
