Man killed in full public view

Jajpur: A man was killed with a shovel in full public view at Srirampur in Jajpur district today, police said. After allegedly killing Niranjan Mallik (50), the accused Dinabandhu Malik alias Sudam threatened the onlookers as they tried to catch him for an hour and even pounced on a policeman and injured the cop as he tried to grab him.

The accused was later arrested and the weapon seized. The incident, having taken place at Srirampur under Binjharpur police station limits, was stated to be a fallout of a minor dispute, police said. Both the accused and victim belong to Naraharipur village near Binjharpur.

"The accused has been arrested under section 302 of IPC. The weapon used in the crime has been seized. The body has been sent to the district headquarter hospital for post mortem," SDPO, Jajpur, Dipty Ranjan Roy said.
