Konark Sun Temple’s Iron Scaffoldings To Be Removed

Puri: The iron scaffoldings put up at Konark Sun Temple will soon be removed, informed Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). In this regard, a three-member team of Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) from Roorkee led by scientist Siddharth Behera inspected the temple today.

The CBRI team, accompanied by an engineering team of ASI, inspected the Garbha Gruha (sanctum sanctorum) and outer walls of the temple. As per reports, within two months, all the iron scaffoldings put up outside the walls will be removed.

The team of experts will inspect the condition of different parts of the temple and collect sand samples of the Garbha Gruha, informed sources.

The iron scaffoldings were installed to support the stones placed on the temple premises. While the aesthetic value of the temple has reduced due to the scaffoldings, tourists are not able to see the fine art work of the temple.

“CBRI has been studying the situation here at Konark Temple for many years to identify the problems and find possible solutions. The process of removing the scaffoldings will be completed in the coming months,” said ASI Superintendent, Arun Mallick.
