Bolangir: After one year, jaundice has again returned to haunt the residents of Bolangir with 10 fresh cases being reported within a fortnight.

With monsoon round the corner, the residents are in a state of panic as neither the civic body or the district administration has taken any measures to tackle the situation.

According to reports, the waterborne disease has assumed serious proportions at Sashtrinagar under ward no 21 of Bolangir municipality.

"I underwent treatment at Bolangir for nearly 15 days and now the doctors have referred me to Burla," said Rani Pradhan, a patient.

Local residents alleged that the administration had swung into action following the jaundice outbreak some six months back.

However, similar kind of response is missing on part of the civic body and officials of the district administration following the jaundice outbreak now.

The residents have blamed poor drainage, sanitation and lack of drinking water provisions for the jaundice outbreak in the locality.

"We yet to get reports about jaundice outbreak. We will take necessary measures to tackle the situation," said Bolangir Municipality executive officer, Bhagat Seth.
