Cuttack: The High Court has directed the Odisha government and Odisha Public Service Commission to complete recruitment for all vacant posts of assistant professors in all the three government medical colleges and hospitals. There are nearly 180 posts of assistant professors lying vacant in different departments of the three government teaching hospitals.

A division bench of the High Court comprising Justice B P Das and Justice I Mohanty yesterday directed that the appointment of assistant professors should be complete within three months.

It was alleged in a petition that the state government without properly evaluating the orders passed by the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) stopped recruitment, as a result of which posts were lying vacant since 2005. The petition also sought initiating of contempt charges against the officials who were responsible for this.

The division bench ordered that the contempt petition shall not be dropped. The state government, however, informed the bench that recruitment has already started and notification was made on October 20.
