Jajpur: Gold and silver ornaments, valued at over Rs 15 lakh, were stolen from the strongroom of the Lakshmi temple at Uakhia-Gopinathpur in Odisha's Jajpur district, police sources said today.
 
When the temple priest opened the temple door at6 am this morning,he found the strongroom broken and the box containing the gold and silver ornaments weighing over 12 kg missing, the sources said.
 
The priest immediately alerted the temple managing committee, who lodged a complaint with the police.
 
Jajpur Sub Divisional Police Officer, Dipti Ranjan Ray visited the temple and the assistance of dog squad and a team of scientific experts was taken to collect clues related to the theft.
 
Two crowbars were seized and the box containing the jewels was found in a field, the sources said adding, no arrest was reported.
