Bhubaneswar: The landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm Bulbul has begun with wind intensity of around 115-125 kmph gusting up to 140 kmph. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone will cross West Bengal & Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Islands and Khepupara respectively.
Due to the cyclone, heavy rainfall along with squally wind lashed several places of Odisha including Balasore.
Amidst heavy rainfall and wind, many trees were uprooted disrupting vehicular communication in many places of Odisha following which rescue and restoration works were undertaken.

Several parts of Odisha witnessed heavy rainfall under the impact of cyclonic storm Bulbul. One 70-year-old Ganeswar Mallick died after an asbestos fell on him in Gajrajpur village under Rajkanika Police limits in Kendrapara. Later, on the direction of Tehsildar, an on-spot investigation was launched by the Revenue Inspector.

Earlier, over 2000 people in different parts of Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts were evacuated to safer places as a precautionary measure by Odisha government in view of the storm which lay centered some 100 kms away from Paradip at 6 AM today.
Paradip had received highest rainfall of 159 mm, followed by Chandbali with 143 mm and Balasore 32 mm of rainfall. Squally winds reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is prevailing along and off Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.
This apart, there were reports of trees getting uprooted in several parts of Paradip, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts.

The very severe cyclonic storm moved at a speed of 7 kmph in the early hours of Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast that cyclonic storm was very likely to retain intensity and move nearly northwards.Thereafter, it is very likely to re-curve northeastwards and likely to move fast and cross West Bengal and Bangladesh Coasts between Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and Khepupara (Bangladesh), across Sunderban delta by today evening as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 Kmph.
Kendrapara Collector Samarth Verma had informed that nearly 1,500 people in the district were evacuated in view of the heavy rain forecast by IMD today.

The SRC had informed that 3 blocks in Odisha received over 100 mm of rainfall under the impact of cyclone Bulbul. Rajnagar in Kendrapara received a highest of 180mm of rainfall, followed by 150 mm in Chandbali in Bhadrak and 136 mm in Rajkanika in Kendrapara.

Heavy rains triggered by the cyclonic storm left a trail of destruction. As per reports, standing paddy crops in several hectares of agricultural land have been damaged.
