Bhubaneswar: Sailing not a mile or two but 410 kilo metres in the river Mahanadi. Sounds adventurous. The Odisha chapter of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has organised a 14-day Mahanadi Expedition programme. The expedition was flagged off today from Kamaladih Ghat under Narsinghpur block in Cuttack district.

NCC cadets equipped with river sailing fatigues started running towards the boat no sooner had the NCC band started playing the song. Within minutes after the expedition was flagged off, the proud cadets were seen sailing smoothly in the wavy waters of the famous river. The 14-day expedition would end at Paradip. Of course, the cadets would have night halts at 11 different places on their 410 kilo metres journey.

The participants have been selected from three NCC groups across the state. The 30-member contingent includes 10 girls and 20 boys. Lieutenant Colonel Manas Chowdhury of the Indian Navy is the director of the expedition. The NCC has roped in ODRAF and Rapid Action Force personnel for the smooth conduct of the expedition.
