Bhubaneswar: Congress party in the state has all reasons to cheer as its candidates Sunita Bag, Sulochana Behera and Sudeshna Suraj have been elected unopposed as Chairperson of newly constituted Atabira, Hindol and Nuapada Notified area councils (NACs), respectively, today.

Interestingly, the Chairperson posts in Atabira and Nuapada NACs, which were reserved for SC (Woman) candidates and ST candidates respectively, were bagged by Congress as BJD had no candidate to field belonging to these categories.

In the recently concluded Atabira NAC polls, both Congress and BJD won in six wards each.

On the other hand, Congress emerged victorious in seven seats and the BJD in four seats in the 14-seat Nuapada NAC while the BJP won three seats.

Meanwhile, in Hindol NAC, Congress candidate Sulochana Behera got the support of 6 independent corporators which helped her grab the Chairperson post unopposed.
