Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday reviewed the flood like situation in Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabrangpur districts through video conferencing with respective collectors of the affected districts.

Patnaik, who assessed the incessant rain and flood like situation, was apprised about the loss of two lives in Malknagiri district in the flash flood yesterday. The CM directed the officials concerned to provide compensation of Rs1.5 lakh each to the family of the victims.

“The flood situation in Malkangiri has become worse and several roads have been washed away. Communication to Bandaghati has remained cut off due to the flood. Two persons were killed and two others rescued after they were washed away by the flood in the district,” Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said.

Police on Thursday retrieved body of a woman who was among the four persons washed away in the flash flood while crossing river Orangi of Malkangiri district.

The woman was identified as Malati Goltoda (40) of Orangi village, the police said.

Meanwhile, incessant rainfall caused havoc in the entire district with several roads being washed away by the flash flood in different places.

Washing away of Khairput-Mudulipada road has led to no communication with the habitations of Bonda tribals, a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG).

The district has been experiencing heavy rainfall since three days.
