Hundreds of  devotees and security personnel were engaged in a pitched battle at Chandaneswar on the last day of the Chadak Festival. Everything was going on smoothly till some devotees allegedly started throwing muds at policemen on duty. The festival has the tradition of local people garlanding and throwing muds at each other.

The police resorted to lathi-charge following scuffle between the security forces and the people. The irate mob also started pelting stones and pebbles at the policemen on duty and set fire to one police vehicle. Over 50 devotees were injured in the battle while about 22 policemen including two Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) were injured as well.
