Bolangir: A case was registered against Congress MLA Surendra Singh Bhoi and 20 others on Sunday on charge of violating prohibitory orders in Bolangir district, the police said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC had been clamped in the town on Friday in view a decision by Advasi Kalyan Sangha, an umbrella outfit of tribals in Saintala block, to take out a rally to protest against the candidature of Monika Singh Bhoi for the post of block Chairperson dubbing her to be a "fake tribal".

Monika is the wife of Surendra Singh Bhoi, who represents Titlagarh constituency in the assembly. She was today declared elected uncontested as the Saintala block Chairperson. She was in the same post during the last term.

The police action against MLA was slapped as he had taken out a rally in the town in support of her wife claiming her to be a "genuine tribal". Another case was also filed against president of Advasi Kalyan Sangha, Braja Sundar Singh Bhoi and others on similar charges.

Denying allegation that his wife was a "fake tribal", Singh Bhoi said "the allegation had its genesis to family disputes. My wife is a genuine tribal and if anybody has any problem, they may go to the court".

Monika was elected uncontested from two grampanchayats in the recent panchayat elections and no one had raised any objection on this ground, he said.

Prohibitory orders in the town were still in force as tribals having allegiance to Sangha were up in arms demanding an inquiry into the bonafide of Monika`s caste.
