Bhubaneswar Innovators Script Success Story With Eco-friendly Pens

Bhubaneswar: Two young innovators, Prem Panday and Md Ahmad Raza from Bhubaneswar have made the headlines with an innovation which challenges the dominance of plastic pens. The duo has been able to produce eco-friendly pens from newspapers, fruit and flower seeds.

These eco-friendly pens produced through a start-up 'Likhna' are available in two variants. While one consists of vegetable, fruit and flower seeds, the other is made without seeds. The variants have been priced at Rs 5 and Rs 7, respectively.

"We tried to make eco-friendly alternative of plastic pens, as plastic is harming our environment. These pens aren't completely plastic free as they have a plastic refill, but body of the pen has been created from newspaper. Our next aim is to do away with plastic refill," Prem Panday told news agency ANI.

In his reaction, Md Ahmad Raza said, "Unlike regular use and throw pens, people can discard these pens in a pot or soil and within weeks it'll germinate into a plant. We have received good reviews for our pens, not only in India but also from Germany and Australia as these pens are available in those markets."
