Bhubaneswar:  In what could expose the network of human trafficking and prostitution which has its tentacles spread from Bangladesh to Odisha, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police Crime Branch on Tuesday managed to nab the mastermind Sk Ibrahim and his wife.

Ibrahim and his wife, who is popularly called as Didi (Anjali) were arrested from Pipili while six other girls were nabbed from Bhubaneswar today.

The six girls were reportedly staying at a rented house in Old Town area in the capital city. A youth had reportedly arranged the accommodation for the girls at a monthly rent of Rs 600, sources said.

“Two girls were staying here and one of them had identified herself as a nurse while another was into some tailoring job. It was only two to three months back that they had moved into the house. I have no idea about the presence of other girls,” said Bishnupriya Panda, owner of the house.

The entire racket was busted after a girl had recently alleged rape attempt by hotel staff in Bhubaneswar.  During probe it was revealed that the girl, a sex worker, hails from Bangladesh and probably entered the State with the help of a fake Aadhaar card. Another sex worker from Bangladesh had alleged that ‘Didi’ used to engage girls in the flesh trade after bringing them from Bangladesh on the pretext of providing jobs.

Police sources said Anjali (Didi) earlier worked for Sunil Meher, who used to operate a major sex racket in Odisha. Later, Anjali started operating on her own with help of her husband Ibrahim.
