Cuttack: The new born swapping incident in the SCB Medical College and Hospital today took a curious turn with the family members of the mother of the new born baby girl, now under care by staff nurses of the gynaecology department, denying to accept the baby even after the DNA test. However, the hospital administration were considering to hand over the girl to any orphanage unless the family members accept the baby within a stipulated time.

The family members of Rashmita Sahoo said that they would never accept the baby girl come what may. Rashmita Sahoo was admitted to the hospital on last Sunday for delivery. The family members of Rashmita later complained that the hospital staff had clandestinely swapped their new born baby boy born on Sunday evening with a girl one and denied to accept the girl. Rashmita`s husband alleged that the hospital authorities spurned their requests to conduct DNA test on the new born girl.

The hospital administration have clarified that the family members should first seek High Court`s permission for conducting the DNA test. Said Colonel Dr Srikant Mohapatra, Senior Hospital Manager, "We are considering to hand over the girl child to any orphanage unless the family members accept the girl. We will give them a deadline." What will happen to the girl who has unfortunately become unwanted for the sake of a boy? The question keeps haunting the hospital administration.
