Bhubaneswar: The State government has initiated an action plan for development of a modern art gallery in the state capital here, official sources said on Friday.

"An existing building near the state museum will be renovated and developed into an art gallery," an official of the tourism department said after attending a meeting chaired by chief secretary B K Patnaik. The architectural design of the building was discussed in the meeting, he said adding that the proposed gallery will be three-storied, including the ground floor.

Patnaik has advised to develop the gallery in accordance with requirements of the artistic community. He has also advised to have international standard lightning and colouring in the gallery. It has been estimated that about Rs 3.3 crore will be utilised for the purpose and work will be completed within six months from the date of commencement of construction, sources said.

The gallery will have facilities for young artist to display their talents. Activities like seminars and art exhibitions would also be organised to keep the gallery lively and vibrant, secretary of Tourism and Culture Ashok Kumar Tripathy said.
