Antique Buddha idol seized, one held in Odisha
Bolangir: A Buddha idol made of of "Astadhatu" (alloy of eight metals) was seized and a man arrested on charge of smuggling the antique piece in Bolangir district, police said on Monday.
On a tip off, a police team detained four persons while riding two motorbikes at Harishankar chowk yesterday.
However, three of them managed to flee the spot while one was caught by the police and the idol seized, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bolangir, Sunil Kumar Joshi said.
The antique idol, weighing about five kg, was considered valuable in the international market, Joshi said adding interrogation was on to know more about involvement of others, if any, in the trade.
Earlier, two persons were arrested on March 16 and a Buddha idol with antique value was seized while being smuggled out of the district, he said.
