Angul: While remarriage after death of husband still continues to be a taboo for some sections of society, a woman has set an example by solemnising the marriage of her daughter-in-law, months after the death of her son.

According to sources, Rashmi Ranjan, younger son of Pratima Behera, a former Sarpanch of Gobara panchayat in Talcher area, had tied the knot with 20-year-old Lily of Turanga village in February this year. However, he lost his life in Bharatpur coal mine landslide mishap on July 23 where at least four persons were killed.

Feeling that Lily’s life could be traumatic if she stays alone, the bereaved family took the courageous decision of remarrying her so that she could lead a happy life. Later, Pratima counselled Lily and convinced her to remarry her brother's son.

"I lost my son in a coalmine mishap and the loss will always remain irreplaceable. However, I love my daughter-in-law and want her to lead a happy life. I convinced everyone including my brother's family and also took views of my daughter-in-law's parents before proceeding with the decision," said Pratima.

The wedding ceremony was held at a temple in Rajkishorepada in the district in the presence of Lily's parents and her in-laws recently.
