Sambalpur: In a shocking incident, nine newborn babies died in the last 36 hours at the Sick and Newborn Care units of VSS medical college and hospital in Sambalpur due to unknown reasons.
The incident triggered tension in the medical campus as the parents of the deceased held hospital authorities responsible for the death of newborns.
Though the exact reasons behind the death are yet to be ascertained, health department ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter. DMET and Sishu Bhawan director will investigate the case, health secretary Pradipta Mohapatra said.
“What the hospital officials told us over phone is that the babies died over two reasons. But different allegations will obviously come from the guardians. The reasons will only be known after investigation. DMET and Sishu Bhawan director will proceed to Sambalpur soon for inquiry” Mohapatra said.
