Keonjhar: The Khudurukuni immersion festival turned fatal when eight boys went missing in the river Baitarani today in Anandpur of Keonjhar district. Four have been rescued while the others are yet to be traced. The fire brigade team has intensified its search and rescue operation to trace the missing revellers.
 
The incident took place at Atta ghat in Anandpur at around 10 am today while local Khudurukuni puja revellers took out their idols to Baitarani for immersion.  As many as 500 puja enthusiasts accompanied nearly 30 idols in a procession to the river bank. Some local boys helped the girls to immerse the idols in the swollen river. However, seven boys slipped into the current of water while immersing the idols, locals said.
 
On being informed, Anandpur fire department officials rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. While four boys have been fished out, two of them are admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
 
Search operation is on to find out the missing boys.
