Bhubaneswar: A pall of gloom has descended in Barbil area as three members of a family were killed and two others sustained grievous injuries after a car in which they were travelling collided head on with a truck on Nuamundi-Jagannathpur road in Jharkhand late Friday night.

As per sources, the incident occurred when one Rabindranath Mohapatra was returning to Barbil from Sadheikala along with his wife Manu, daughter Soni Panda, son-in-law Rahul Panda and one and half-year-old granddaughter Phalguni.

While Mohapatra, Manu and Phalguni succumbed to the injuries, his daughter and son-in-law were admitted to Nuamundi Hospital in a critical condition.

Reportedly, Mohapatra was working in NESCO department of Barbil in Keonjhar district.

In another mishap, four persons including a patient and two attendants had a close shave as the car in which they were travelling caught fire near Sum Hospital Chhak in Bhubaneswar.

Sources said the INNOVA car suddenly caught fire as soon as they reached Sum Hospital. However, all four somehow managed to get out of the car just in time.
