Bhubaneswar: Three murders in 10 days have stoked safety and security concerns among the denizens of Bhubaneswar. Moreover, it has posed a challenge for the Commissionerate Police as no accused in these cases have been arrested yet.

On August 30, senior citizen Manorama Panda was killed by miscreants at her house in Pahala Bazaar under Balianta police limits during a loot. Similarly, on August 24, Laxmipriya Biswal was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend inside a hotel room in Mancheswar area. In another case, on August 21, Purna Naik was found murdered on premises of the Nayapalli IRC Village school.

In all the above murder cases, the Commissionerate Police is yet to get any leads.

Sources said in the Laxmipriya murder case, the police have identified the accused whereas the CCTV footage of IRC village murder case is being examined.

“In the three cases, the accused are unknown. Therefore, to work out the cases the police are taking some time. The cops have given priority to the three cases and accused will be nabbed soon,” said Police Commissioner, Satyajit Mohanty.

Commenting on the matter, former DGP Sanjeev Marik said, “Be it murder or any crime, no one does it to get caught. Mostly, the culprit does the crime with an intention to evade arrest. These days it has become a challenge for police as inter-state movements are very fast.”
