3 kg gold ornaments looted from jewellery shop

Bhubaneswar: Day after a newlywed couple was robbed in the city, five armed miscreants on Wednesday night looted around 5 kg gold ornaments from a city based jewellery shop here. One of the miscreants was captured and beaten by the locals while escaping. He was identified as Jitu Panda of Balasore.

Jitu was admitted to SCB medical college for treatment. The police, who are hopeful of getting more information from the injured miscreant, took him to Bhubaneswar for interrogation after doctors discharged him on Thursday. On the other hand, the forensic team has started investigation at the shop.

Sources said, the unidentified looters entered the shop forcefully at around 9 pm on Wednesday and terrorized the sales men at gunpoint while they are about to the close the store. Later, the thieves threatened the shop owner to give all the ornaments. They attacked one employee of the shop with sharp weapon and fled away with nearly 5 kg of gold ornaments.

However, the local people managed to detain one of the miscreants and handed over to police before beating him up heavily.
